End User Education Program Overview
The SIU Administrative Information System (AIS) team is committed to providing effective, timely and relevant instruction to department end users expected to access AIS. Department end users exclude Central Business Offices staff, e.g., Purchasing, Accounts Payable, etc.
Objectives
The AIS Department End User e-Learning program is designed to be “role based” and “progressive”. Role based training organizes and presents instruction around the job responsibilities of the end user.
AIS’ new training approach for faculty, staff and administrators is to offer primarily self-directed educational materials, with a practice environment available.
The self-directed e-Learning program is structured into Units, Modules and Learning Cycles. The first two units provide end users with system concepts and basic usage, e.g., Navigation. Subsequent units present system features and usage associated with job roles.
Approach
The AIS End User e-Learning program is being constructed and delivered by and for SIU employees. The Training and Documentation team has joined with subject matter experts from the University’s central business offices to develop relevant, SIU-specific materials.
Most of the units are self-guided from the AIS Home Page. But, when formal training is required or desired, instructors are drawn from SIU’s central business offices, bringing both knowledge of the new system and years of experience to the users. All end user hands-on training is conducted at various training sites on the Carbondale, Edwardsville, and Springfield campuses.
The AIS End User e-Learning program builds upon professional expertise and uses proven training methods developed both within the University and at similar projects in other locations.
