LINGUISTIC ANTHROPOLOGY
Linguistic anthropologists study the relationships between language, culture, and society.. Linguistic anthropology gives you an understanding of how human communication works, how it evolved, and the importance of linguistic choices in our daily lives.
Linguistic anthropologists in the program at SIUC study in Germany, the Southwestern United States, and Guatemala, and in our own backyard in southern Illinois. Special emphases in our program include Native American languages, bilingualism, language and identity, discourse, language contact, and poetics.
