Bethany Myers (PhD, archaeology) is a PhD archaeology student working in Guatemala with Don and Pru Rice. She is also extremely interested in Maya hieroglyphic writing, iconography, and Maya languages. In 2004 she received her MA from The Pennsylvania State University before returning to SIU, where she earned her BA. Her PhD will be completed under the supervision of Pru Rice. This year Bethany received a doctoral fellowship from The Graduate School. Last year she was awarded an alternate Jacob K. Javits Fellowship distinction and this year she was awarded an NSF Graduate Fellowship Honorable Mention. Bethany has recently written an article re-analyzing the ritual offerings that were made at the Templo Mayor at the Mexica capital of Tenochtitlan. This article is to be published as an appendix in a forthcoming volume written by Dr. William T. Sanders. This research was also presented as a paper at the 69th Annual Meeting of the Society for American Archaeology in Montreal, Canada in 2004, and was titled The Rise of Tlaloc: Private Worship at the Templo Mayor. Bethany is also the primary author on a co-authored article with Pru Rice that has been submitted for review to Latin American Antiquity.
