Christopher Koeppel (Ph.D., archaeology) is an archaeologist on the staff of the Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology (DHPA), Indiana Department of Natural Resources.  Christopher’s work with the DHPA includes investigating the accidental discovery of human remains and archaeological sites, preserving historic cemeteries and burial grounds, research and excavation of the archaeological resources on state lands, and review and permitting of archaeological research within the state of Indiana.  Recent projects include compiling field notes and maps from the early 1980’s regarding historic shipwrecks in Lake Michigan and excavation at the possible location of historic Prophet’s Town site in Tippecanoe County.  In regards to his dissertation research, Christopher is currently analyzing a large collection of historic Chickasaw (and Natchez) ceramics from northeastern Mississippi, and plans to travel to that region this fall to collect additional data.
