| Jimee Choi (Ph.D., sociocultural anthropology) conducted her eighteen-month doctorate research on the Korea-Japan interstitial Island in Japan from June, 2001 to December, 2002. She analyzed the cultural performance celebrating officially silenced historical events, which takes place annually on the island. Her focus is on the process of embodying the "place" and "locality" among the islanders utilizing theoretical perspectives of identity, power, ritualization, and historical consciousness. She is currently working on her dissertation and articles based on the research, and teaching an anthropology course on American cultural diversities at SIU. |
