Tamira Brennan (MA, archaeology) is a second year Master’s student at SIUC studying complex chiefdoms in the southeastern US.  This past summer, she worked with the SIUC field school, supervising and excavating at the Kincaid site, a large Mississippian mound center near the Illinois/Kentucky border.  She is currently investigating architectural variation at this site, primarily utilizing field data collected by the University of Chicago in the 1930’s and 40’s, supplemented by more recent excavations.  In November she will be presenting a paper on this topic during a symposium at the Southeastern Archaeological Conference in Columbia, South Carolina.  Tamira hopes to complete her MA by December, at which time she will continue on in the program for her PhD.
