Formation
of Mound N
The construction history of
Mound
N, illustrated in the accompanying drawing [Figure
7] and photograph [Figure
8], starts with a house whose floor was dug at
least
10-15 cm below the prevailing ground surface, down into the leached E
soil
horizon. That house burned, probably after it had already been
abandoned.
The area of the burned house was then covered with 50-70 cm of fill to
make a small mound. No evidence of a building was seen on the
flat
top of this mound, but this may well be due to erosion and/or
bioturbation
of the evidence.
