How
to Change
Language Settings in Microsoft Office XP to automatically insert
Chinese numbers (for more general
details, see Changing
Language Settings, some of whose wording is copied here)
Most don't work in Office 2007
You
can use Chinese characters to automatically number
lists, write the date & time, number footnotes, or insert page
numbers. Options include ordinary Chinese numbers (一,二,三。。。),
commercial form numbers (壹,贰,叁。。。) and even
the Heavenly
Stems (甲,乙,丙。。。) and Earthly
Branches (子,丑,寅。。。).
To
enable additional languages, you'll need your installation disk.
1. Click Start, Programs, Microsoft Office Tools.
2. In the Microsoft Office Language Settings dialog, click the Enabled
Languages tab.
3. Click the check boxes for the language(s) you wish to enable, then
click OK.
Then you can number lists in Chinese (choose "format" "bullets
&
numbering" and choose a numbered list and then "customize"):
Or
insert the date and time in Chinese ("Insert" "date and time", and
choose Chinese):
Or
number footnotes in Chinese (choose "insert", "footnote", "options",
and choose the number format):
Or
put in Chinese page numbers ("insert", "page numbers", "format"):
(I
enabled Japanese, so in the images above, 壱 appears as the first
character in one of the commercial form lists).
