Catalog Description A detailed study of the concepts and techniques utilized in the silvicultural treatment of forests.
Prerequisite Forestry 331 or permission of the instructor
Objectives 1. To develop an understanding of the terminology and techniques of silviculture. 2. To develop an understanding of the advantages and limitations of silvicultural systems as they relate to specific biotic, abiotic, social and economic conditions. Particular emphasis will be placed on Central States forests but appropriate examples from across the United States will be used. 3. To develop an appreciation for the role of silviculture within the broader context of forest management. 4. To gain familiarity with the application of silvicultural treatments to specific cases.
