Forest
Resources Management
This option
will help students
prepare for a career in forest management and production, multiple-use
resource management, or the forest products industry. Students will
gain
understanding of the physical, biological, and economic considerations
required in sound management decisions for the multiple use of forest
resources.
Emphasis is placed on using a problem-solving approach to integrating
and
coordinating use practices with conservation principles to perpetuate
the
renewable resources of our forests. During a five-week summer camp
students
will gain practical field experience that will be valuable to an
employer.

Outdoor
Recreation Resources Management
This option
provides interdisciplinary
training for students who plan to become managers of the nation's
wealth
of outdoor recreation sites. In addition to the SAF accreditation, the
program presents courses recommended by the National Recreation and
Park
Association. Students will participate in a summer camp and travel
through
selected sections of the U.S., taking part in recreation field studies.
Students will prepare for professional careers in managing and
administering
wildlands for outdoor recreation and park uses in a variety of agencies
that operate programs in diverse geographic and natural settings.

Forest
Hydrology
The forest
hydrology option emphasizes management of water resources within a
watershed context. Students are prepared to enter
water-related careers in federal and state governmental agencies,
municipal/county watershed management, and environmental/engineering
consulting firms. This specialization also prepares students for
graduate study in natural resource management and hydrology. The
specialization includes areas of study recommended and accredited by
the Society of American Foresters and includes the course work
necessary to qualify as a hydrologist in a federal agency.
Urban Forest Management
The urban forest management option
provides students with interdisciplinary training needed to manage
forest resources in urban areas and other settings where esthetics and
high human impacts are of primary concern. Areas of study include
course work in arboriculture, landscape management and design, small
business management and municipal government. Students are
especially prepared for entry into careers in the green industry, as
well as municipal forest management and administration. This
specialization includes areas of study recommended and accredited by
the Society of American Foresters.
