Message from our Director

Welcome to the ISAT Homepage! The school of Information Systems has three degree programs on campus and one specialization with approximately 425 majors, 22 faculty, two academic advisors, 2 support personnel, a LAN support specialist, and several graduate assistants.

The degree programs are:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electronic Systems Technologies and a Specialization in Electronics Management
  • Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Technologies and a Specialization in Captioning (Enrollment in Captioning has been suspended)
  • Bachelor of Science in Technical Resource Management

These programs have produced hundreds of graduates who are successfully developing careers in all sectors of the electronics and information technology fields. In my 23-year association with the school, I have seen its programs continually evolve to keep pace with the ever-changing technologies. One thing that has stayed constant, however, is our sincere commitment to provide each student with the best possible education opportunity. I am blessed with a well-qualified faculty. Our instructors have excellent teaching skills, interesting research agendas, and a true dedication to serving their discipline. Limiting technical core class enrollments to 15-24 students allows for more personal student/instructor interaction. Our laboratory equipment is kept current through the support of the college, industry partners, and granting agencies.

In addition to programs delivered on the Carbondale campus, ISAT offers a Bachelor of Science in Fire Service Management at four remote locations through Off Campus Academic Programs. The Electronic Systems Technologies Specialization in Electronics Management is offered on six military bases throughout the United States. Information concerning these degree options is available at http://www.siu.edu/~asaocap/ or by contacting the OCAP office at (618) 536-6609.

Please contact me via email at wdev@siu.edu, telephone (618) 453-7253, or drop by my office in the Applied Sciences and Arts Building, C wing, Room 106, if you are in Carbondale. Please browse through the rest of the homepage and the faculty listings. I hope to hear from you.

Advanced Technical Studies becomes Technical Resource Management (TRM)

We are pleased to announce the recently approved title change for the Advanced Technical Studies program. Effective Summer 2006, the title will officially be a Bachelor of Science in Technical Resource Management (TRM).

TRM is much more descriptive of the intent of the program and the goals of its graduates. Potential employers have a much better understanding of a title including the phrase “technical management.” In this age of electronic filtering of resumes, these key words will help our graduates. The new title also aligns our program much better with our peer institutions. In addition, several Master of Science programs can be found with the title of “Technical Management.”

The program continues to be an excellent 2-year baccalaureate cap to virtually any Associate of Applied Science degree. TRM majors complete a 21-hour technical management core curriculum and 15 hours of electives focused on meeting the AAS graduate’s long-term personal career objectives. This flexibility makes TRM a truly unique program.

Anyone who would like more information regarding the change may contact Will Devenport, Director of the School of Information Systems & Applied Technologies at (618) 453-7279 or by email at wdev@siu.edu. You may also contact the TRM advisor and representative, Lisa Lindhorst, by phone at (618) 453-7281 or by email at lisalind@siu.edu.
