Academic Programs at SIUC-N

Each student who pursues a bachelor's degree must meet the university "Core Curriculum" requirements and the requirements of the academic unit and the major - primary field of study. SIUC believes in a strong, well-rounded general education for all students, which includes a common core of knowledge.  Classroom: SIUC at Niigata
SIUC has, therefore, established a comprehensive and broad-based Core Curriculum course requirement which serves as the basis for all baccalaureate degrees. Generally, the university Core Curriculum requirements total 41 credit hours. SIUC-N offers courses mainly from Core Curriculum requirements and elective courses. Credit hours earned at SIUC-N are comparable to the Core Curriculum requirements at the Carbondale campus. Students study at the Nakajo campus as a pre-major student, learning about American style education, seeking which field would be more interesting to them and earning actual credits. The SIUC-N program allows students to take a little more time to plan their education and career. When students have acquired the skills to study in American higher education, they continue their study at the main campus in Carbondale.  By that time, students will be confident about being a student in SIUC and confident also about their achieving academic success.
