What is a paralegal??? There ARE jobs available for our graduates. We have the only 4 year Bachelor of Science Paralegal program in Illinois that is approved by the American Bar Association. According the Illinois Paralegal Association, the average yearly salary in Illinois for a paralegal is $56,000.

• SIU’s paralegal program offers hands on learning experiences, such as computer based legal research, drafting of legal documents, basic legal concepts, and numerous other employment marketable skills.

• You will gain a working knowledge into the intricacies of legal research, writing, and legal theory, making SIU’s Paralegal Studies Program an excellent law school preparation.

• Many paralegal students are accepted to SIU School of Law as well as many others across the country. (Angie Scott 1997 graduate of the Paralegal Studies program and was ranked the #2 graduate of the 2000 SIUC Law School class).

• With an ABA approved Paralegal degree you are not just limited to becoming a paralegal. Here are some positions held by our alumnus: Trust Officer, Legal Arbitrator, and Grants Administrator for the State of Illinois.

• The Paralegal Studies program also supports student groups, such as the LEX Honor Society and the Organization of Paralegal Students (OPS)
