Administrative Graduate Assistantships exist in may offices on campus.  A listing of existing openings for these assistantships may be viewed at www.siu.edu/gradschl/gaposting.htm

Graduate School Tuition Waiver Scholarships:  You must be admitted to an SIUC graduate program to apply for this scholarship.  Scholarships grant a waiver of tuition only (no stipend).  The primary determining factor in granting of awards is GPA.  US citizens & permanent residents may apply any semester.  Deadlines are July 15, November 15, and April 15 for the following semesters.  Applications may be obtained in Woody Hall B 114 (Karen Jennings:  453-4555).

Graduate School Fellowships:  These fellowships are available for students with outstanding academic records.  Students must apply through their own departments.  If you feel you have an outstanding academic record (GPA of at least 3.5 & a 75th percentile score on 1 of the graduate tests such as the GRE), see Dr. Simpson by early February to request a recommendation for the award of a tuition waiver & monthly stipend for the following fall.

Teacher Shortage Scholarships

The State Board of Education recently received authorization to expand the list of Teacher Shortage Disciplines.  Therefore, students who are seeking their initial teacher certification in Speech and Language Impaired are now eligible.  The DeBolt Teacher Shortage Scholarship and the Minority Teachers of Illinois Scholarship offer scholarships of up to $5,000 each year, beginning at the sophomore level.  Please note that each year a student receives either scholarship, he or she is required to teach in Illinois, after graduation.  If this requirement is not fulfilled, the scholarship reverts to a loan that must be repaid.

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission will begin accepting applications for the 2002-2003 academic year in December 2001.  ISAC is still accepting applications for the 2001-2002 academic year.  Applications are available online at:  http:  www.isacl1.org

If you have any questions, please contact a Client Services Representative at
