Student Conduct Code
***Click the above link to view the Student Conduct Code ***

Student Judicial Affairs (SJA) is responsible for the administration of the Student Conduct Code. SJA conducts judicial hearings when appropriate to determine whether a student's behavior has violated the Student Conduct Code. Sanctions imposed by SJA for Code violations are intended to change student behavior and to emphasize ethical and responsible behavior.

The Student Judicial Affairs Program administers the Student Conduct Code and supervises the student judicial program for social misconduct. The purpose of the Student conduct Code is to establish and maintain an orderly environment conducive for:

  • learning
  • free expression
  • free inquiry, intellectual honesty
  • respect for others and participation in constructive change
  • and to protect relevant legal rights of the students

The judicial program is designed to contribute to the teaching of appropriate individual behavior as well as to protecting the campus community from harm and disruption. Special emphasis is placed on the training and contributions of students and faculty who serve on judicial review boards. Judicial Boards at SIUC are agents formed by representation of the student body in order to adjudicate disciplinary cases at that formal administrative level. The manner in which these agents execute functions available to their competence ensures not only due process, but also a strict fairness in the educational value of the judicial system at SIUC. Furthermore, established principles shall be considered as ethical guidelines for the promotion of justice while adjudicating disciplinary cases at this formal administrative level.

For additional information regarding the rights and responsibilities of students under the Student Conduct Code, or the judicial review process, contact Student Judicial Affairs, located in Woody Hall B-Wing, telephone 536-2338.
