S t u d e n t s' L e g a l A s s i s t a n c e |
The Students' Legal Assistance office provides legal services to SIUC students.
Students pay a $5 per sememster fee and are not charged any additional fee for services provided. Students must be currently enrolled and paying fees to be eligible for services provided by the Students' Legal Assistance office.
SLA is staffed by two full time Attorneys in addition to 2nd and 3rd year Law Clerks who handle various cases under the supervision of the Attorneys.
If you have legal questions, or concerns, please look at the link on this page, "Cases we CAN and CANNOT handle". If you have a legal matter that we can assist you with, please come by or call our office and set up an appointment. Someone will be assigned to meet with you and discuss your case. There are specific guidelines and limitations concerning what legal matters we can handle and to what extent we can pursue a case. Please feel free to call with questions.

~ S L A Office Information ~ Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Our office is located in the Student Center, on the 3rd floor, at the south end of the building. If you take the elevator to the 3rd floor, you will be facing the right way when you get off. Follow the hallway all the way to the end. There is a sign saying, "Students' Legal Assistance".

We have a variety of printed materials available here in our office and we invite you to stop by for free copies. Some of our most popular handouts, "Your Rights As A Tenant" and "Before Signing a Lease" deal with renting and landlord/tenant issues which are concerns for many of our students. Other useful handouts are, "Your Rights If Arrested" "Beware Zero Tolerance" "False IDs" and more!
