SOCW 478- International Social Work in
Oaxaca , Mexico This is a 1 to 6 hour credit course open to all majors, undergraduate and graduate students. Social Workers and Health Educators who attend can apply for CEUs through Continuing Education and International Programs and Services. Prior to departure students will receive a bibliography; introduction to the concepts of social work practice and policies in an international setting; examination of current professional practice in different cultures with an overview of historical, political, economic, geographical, and other bicultural diversity experiences. This Study Abroad program also investigates the interconnected nature of the arts, history, environmental psychology and architecture using the built environment as one foundation for the study. This program is scheduled for a fourteen day period with specific days and times for curriculum related activities. The program will provide a total of 22 hours of language classes and 60 hours of exposure to Oaxacan Social Service agencies, cultural classes, lectures, field trips, walks, and some time to relax!
