COMMENTS ON THE 2006 COMPENDIUM

The 8th Edition of the Compendium of Herbicide Adjuvants contains 523 entries from 39 companies. The 1st Edition of this Compendium was assembled in 1992 with 76 entries from 22 companies. The increase in the number of adjuvants is a result of: increased market focus on postemergence herbicide applications, blending of adjuvants into a single product for use with specific herbicides, the advancement of science pertaining to herbicide adjuvants, and the successful research and development by adjuvant manufacturers for commercialization of novel adjuvant products. This Edition is an update since many new products are added annually and others are taken off the market. The products are organized by type of adjuvant such as nonionic surfactants, crop oil concentrates, etc. Product name, principal functioning agent (when provided), use rate, comments in some instances, and manufacturer and/or distributor are provided. Percent "active ingredient" is not included since it is of questionable value in many instances as there is not yet an industry-wide standard as to what materials qualify as active ingredients. The industry is addressing this situation and at sometime in the future this compendium may include a section for percent active ingredient based on information provided by the manufactures and/or distributors.

The information in the 2006 Compendium was assembled for educational purposes only and is believed to be accurate since the products and their descriptions were provided by the manufacturer and/or distributor. Omission of products used in Illinois and elsewhere was either unintentional or because of a lack of response from the manufacturer and/or distributor. The listing of products in this compendium does not constitute an endorsement nor is the omission of products in any way an intention to discriminate against them. Manufacturers whose products were not included in the 8th Edition are invited to contact the author for immediate inclusion on the website

and in the next printing of the booklet.

COMPENDIUM WEBSITE All of the information in the booklet version of the compendium is also available on the internet (www.herbicide-adjuvants.com). Posting the compendium on the internet was initiated in 2000 following the compilation of the 5th Edition.

The printed version continues to be the major form of distribution and serves the purpose of supplying basic adjuvant information in a handy field-ready booklet. The website was established to supplement the booklet by allowing additional information to be presented to the viewer such as: electronic versions of adjuvant labels, electronic indexing for improved information retrieval, and the listing of products added between printings. Due to a recent increase in the use of crop based adjuvants, a special section of the website has been developed for identification of crop based adjuvants. Our ability to provide more of the general adjuvant information, adjuvant educational material, greater detail on product function, and emerging trends in adjuvant use is enhanced by the use of the website.
