East St. Louis Center Joins Higher Education Campus
by SIUE Public Affairs
The
SIUE East St. Louis Center is now part of the East St. Louis Higher
Education Campus at 601 James R. Thompson Blvd., consisting of four
renovated facilities and two new buildings on the site of the former
Metropolitan Community College.
The largest of the new construction is a 50,000-square-foot
facility that houses SIUE programs such as the Discovery Center for
Little Scholars and the Institute for Urban Research, as well as an
SIU dental clinic and an SIUE nursing clinic.
The East St. Louis Center conducts a total of 14 programs, such
as the St. Clair County Head Start, which serves more than 1,500
children. The center itself served more than 170,000 people last
year.
The East St. Louis Community College Center and the George H.
Ryan Workforce Development office also are housed in refurbished
facilities on campus. SIUE is responsible for maintenance and
operations at the facility.
