In
1979, the family of the late Lindell W. Sturgis of Metropolis,
Illinois, established an endowment to fund an award to recognize
the contributions of an SIU Carbondale employee to his or her
community, the area, state, or nation.
Lindell W. Sturgis was a member of the University's Board of Trustees from 1949 to 1951, and from 1953 until he retired in 1971. He was Chairman of the Board from 1969 until his retirement.
This prestigious award is presented annually by the Board and Trustees and consists of a cash award, a plaque, and a reserved parking space for a year. The award recipient is honored at a luncheon held whereby members of the Sturgis family, members of the Board of Trustees, the President, Chancellor, members of the selection committee, and past award recipients will be invited to attend.
