Bloodstock Agent
Bloodstock agents are used at thoroughbred auctions
where they assist prospective buyers by analyzing many horses’ pedigrees and
their conformation. Most deal with
thoroughbred race horses, many of which are between on and three years
old. Bloodstock agents can also help
with managing horse transportation or arranging breeding for horse owners. Bloodstock agents need good communications
skills in order to effectively explain and compare information about horses to
prospective buyers. To be a bloodstock
agent, one must be willing to travel.
The horse sales that they must attend are held in places all over the
world. Bloodstock agents also need to
maintain a good reputation so they can keep clients and get new ones when they
need or want more business.
The qualifications for being a bloodstock agent include a
good education, such as a bachelor’s degree in equine science, along with
previous experience in the horse racing world.
Bloodstock agents are paid on commission, and the averages starting wage
is $25,000, but wages increase with experience.
