Agricultural Student Advisory Council (Ag Council) is composed
of representatives from each club in the College and works
in conjunction with the College of Agriculture's Administration
and students to sponsor college-wide activities. Activities
the Council sponsors include the All-Ag Banquet, the Ag Career
Fair, Sports Day, and the New Student Cookout. |

Agbassadors® represent the College as speakers for groups,
classes, career days, and college fairs. They provide information
about new opportunities in agriculture related occupations
to those interested in technology, science, business, education,
and many other fields. Prospective members are interviewed
and selected each spring by a committee composed of College
of Agricultural Sciences administrators and students.

Economics Club |

Agribusiness Economics Club is designed to stimulate interest
in ag economics and to provide an understanding of job opportunities
in agribusiness. Past club activities include trips to agricultural
firms and developing a senior brochure for employers.

Computer Club |

| Objectives
of the Agricultural Computer Club include the promotion of
computer applications, technical skills, and computer familiarity.
Members are connected to national on-line bulletin board and
database services. The club helps with an annual statewide
computer contest for Illinois community colleges, sponsors
seminars, video presentations, and discussions on computer
issues and techniques. |

Agricultural Education Club is a student Branch organization
to the Illinois Association of Vocational Agricultural Teachers
(IAVAT). The club was designed for all agricultural education
majors to provide students the opportunity to enhances their
communication and organization skills. It major purpose is
to provide support and a social environment that will enable
education majors to share experiences and develop networking
skills with professional teachers and peer institutions statewide. |

| ACT
is a local chapter of a national organization of students
with interests in agricultural journalism, broadcasting, advertising,
and public relations. Members assist the College with public
relations activities. They produce a regular agriculture faculty,
staff, and student bulletin and the biannual College of Agriculture
alumni newsletter, the AgReporter. |

START is an organization dedicated to bridge the gap between
current students and alumni of the College of Agriculture.
Through working with organizations including the SIU Alumni

the Extern program, Homecoming, and area alumni events, Ag
START works for and with current and future Ag alumni.

Gamma Rho is a national social-professional fraternity for
men pursuing careers in agriculture and related fields. The
Beta Alpha Chapter house is located at 116 Greek Row on the
SIUC campus. AGR stresses leadership, scholarship, and social
development through brotherhood. |

Zeta is a national honorary organization for students and
professionals in agriculture. The purpose of the fraternity
is to foster high standards of character, scholarship, and
leadership among members. Members are chosen by scholastic
achievements, personal character, and leadership qualities.

Block and Bridle Club was chartered at SIUC in the spring
of 1959. The club's objectives include the promotion and development
of higher scholastic standards among students in animal science.
Club activites include an annual spring fun day filled with
several agriculture-related events. The club also sponsors
hayrides and fund raising efforts each year. |

Collegiate FFA is a nationally affiliated organization designed
to develop competent, aggressive agricultural leaders. Activities
familiarize club members and prospective teachers of agriculture
with the duties of an FFA chapter advisor by hosting many
area FFA contests and by attending the state and national
FFA conventions. |

Equine Science Club was designed to aid members in gaining
valuable experience and industry contacts through club-sponsored
events including participation in area horse shows and sales
and touring breeding and training facilities. The club offers
members the opportunity to make connections with the equine

Forestry Club was formed to increase the interest of students
in the forestry profession and to stimulate contacts with
professionals in the industry. The club's activities begin
with practice for the Annual Midwestern Foresters Conclave,
in which students perform the skills of a forester in competition
with other university students. An annual Christmas tree sale
is the major source of revenue for the club. The club has

SIUC Horticulture Society was formed to focus on the horticultural

Hotel, Restaurant Student Association seeks to promote interaction
between students and the hospitality industry. The club sponsors
guest speakers and participates in several off-campus tours
and annual conferences, such as the National Restaurant Show
in Chicago. Members of the club help plan an annual banquet
in conjunction with other Food and Nutrition groups.

International Agriculture Club is designed for students with
either an international background or interest. The group
gives international students the chance to become acquainted
with each other and to intermingle. Activities include field
trips, on-site industry guest speakers, international festivals,

Plant and Soil Science Club helps develop a broad outlook
in the areas of field crops, horticulture, and soils by sponsoring
field trips and guest speakers throughout the year. Annually,
members press and sell apple cider, have bake sales, and sell
holiday flowers. Events such as these provide a social and
educational atmosphere for students and professional who share
mutual interests in the industry. |

Society of Minority Hoteliers is a nationally affiliated club
open to all students in the College of Agriculture. The group
is designed to deal with recruitment, placement, and retention
of minorities in the hospitality industry. They maintain a
database of career opportunities for use by its members and
sponsor a number of guest speakers each year who discuss topics
such as job placement. |

| The
Student Dietetic Association was designed to increase the
interest of students in the dietetic profession and to give
them an opportunity to interact with registered dietitians
in the southern Illinois area. Members work closely with the
American Dietetic Association at district, state, and national
levels. The group holds fund raisers, sponsors special speaking
events, and organizes recreational activities each semester.

as the student's arm of the professional organization of foresters,
the Society of American Foresters chapter gives members interaction
with professionals at state, regional, and national meetings.
A job service to match students' abilities with employment

Sigma Pi |

| Xi
Sigma Pi is the largest national forestry honorary society
in the United States. A student must have a minimum overall
GPA of 2.85 and a 3.0 in professional forestry courses to
be eligible for membership. Xi Sigma Pi members are active
socially, professionally, and academically. The society brings
professional speakers to SIUC, supports a variety of forestry
field trips, and provides annual scholarships. |
