Guidelines

This is a very interesting and enjoyable course but to make a high grade you must follow the instructions below as well as those given during the semester.

1. A student's grade in the course will be a combination of four major scores: the best three out of four exam scores and the total score on the mini-projects. Each of these four parts is 25% of the point total.

2. All students are required to participate in a group project that involves development of a promotion plan for a local client. The project is divided into four parts (mini-projects) that are turned in at various times during the semester. See more details here.

3. Students' participation in the class can also affect grades. Group evaluations of each student's contribution to the project can raise/lower mini-project scores. Also, class attendance will be taken at random and used as extra credit points added to their total points.

4. There are three regular exams during the semester and if students miss any one of the them then they must take the final at the end of the course in order to make it up. No "special" make-ups are given outside of class time. If two tests are missed, the student will receive an F in the course. (The final is optional for those who have taken the three regular exams during the semester.)

5. We have a lot of notes to get through in class so we must stay on schedule. If you have a problem keeping up with the pace of the lectures then feel free to record them or purchase the course CD. While I am very willing to meet with students outside of class to clarify points or provide study suggestions, I will not repeat the lectures outside of class, loan my notes to be copied, or be a private tutor.

6. Review questions, practice tests, as well as other helpful information about this course are available at this website and within Blackboard. Be sure to read the announcements each week throughout the term. The announcements will be here at the course website and they will also be sent to the e-mail address you have in Blackboard.

7. Answers on the test are coded on computer-readable forms. You must bring a #2 pencil to each exam as well as code your name and DAWG Tag exactly the same each time. If you code the information incorrectly then points will be taken off. If needed, calculators will be provided for you; you may not use your own. Cell phones must be turned off during exams and not used for any purpose. Also, you will not be allowed to leave the room during an exam and return for any reason. Prepare accordingly.

8. A copy of the exam will be posted in the Marketing Department suite for a short period of time after the test period. When it is taken down do not come to my office and expect to see it. An error analysis will be available in Blackboard after each exam that tells you your score and which questions you missed. Comparing the error analysis with the exam when it is posted will tend to answer most questions about why you received a particular score. Your scores on the mini-projects will also be available within Blackboard. You are expected to let us know whenever you think there is an error with the scores that have been recorded for you.

9. Cheating will not be tolerated. That includes looking at others' answers during the exams, using cheat sheets, taking copies of the exam, and copying the test in any way when it is posted. It also includes turning in projects that are the same or similar to ones turned in previously. Students found guilty of committing acts of academic dishonesty shall receive at least an F in the course.

10. Your scores in this class are kept in Blackboard. In order for your scores to be placed in Blackboard and for you to access them as well as your error analyses and the practice tests, you must have a network ID. If you do not have a working network ID by the third week of class then you will be dropped from the course. You can find instructions for dealing with a variety of typical problems related to accessing Blackboard at its log-in page

Good luck and I hope you learn a lot about promotion management during the semester!
