Dr. Peter J. Carroll, (Pete) comes from Australia, where he taught both Elementary and Secondary Physical Education for ten years.  He holds three degrees in physical education, bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Alberta, and a doctorate from Pennsylvania State University (1970). He joined the University's Physical Education faculty in 1969, and in 2001, became the Acting Chair of the Department.  Pete has taught courses in many areas including Physiology of Exercise, Fitness in Education, all areas of aquatics, and dancing, but because of his present administrative duties is teaching one course in Physiology of Exercise.

Dr. Carroll’s research includes work in Scuba Diving, Pedagogy, and recently he completed a sabbatical leave where he developed a course for the Core Curriculum related to the contribution of the Olympics in promoting diversity.

Dr. Carroll has been a Scuba Instructor since 1966 and has taught Scuba at SIU since 1970.  He also is the Advisor for the Egyptian Divers Scuba Club, which he founded in 1970.  Also, Dr. Carroll is the Advisor for the SIU Ballroom Dance Club, which he founded in the mid 70’s.
