Museum Administration

Through selection of elective courses in fields such as anthropology, art and design, art history, and political science, students may direct their studies toward museum administration.  The MPA program works closely with the faculty and staff of the University Museum to provide students with strong study and applied practice opportunities.

Like all MPA graduate students, those studying museum administration may be required to perform an internship.  Interns are able to provide museums with a high level of expertise in the operations of museums while at the same time acquiring much needed personal experience.  MPA interns possess the requisite academic backgrounds to work in the areas of: Administration, Collection Management, Education, Exhibition, Registration and Research.

To date, SIUC museum graduate interns have served in such diverse assignments as the:

The Institute for Texan Cultures

The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

The National Quilt Museum

SIUC University Museum

The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum
