Internships
An internship is an excellent way to put classroom theory into practice while you are still in college. Our speech communication program encourages majors to undertake internships, and many do. They have worked for such organizations as the Little Theatre on the Square, Burnham Hospital, Chanute Air Force Base, the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety, Nichols Advertising, UNICEF, March of Dimes, Jackson County YMCA, Monsanto, Southwestern Bell Telephone, WBBM-TV and the Chicago Public Library, among many others.

Minors
Students interested in speech communication at SIUC can enrich their programs with courses from many related departments. If you are interested in the performance studies specialization, for example, you can supplement your major requirements with additional courses in theater, creative writing, or vocal performance. In the public relations specialization you could expand your course work with radio-television, commercial graphics, journalism, advertising, English (creative writing), marketing, and political science. The availability of these other majors and minors at SIUC allows you considerable flexibility in tailoring your education to fit your interests and career goals.
