    faculty searches and meeting with
    interested graduate students

4. Bringing guest speakers to the SIU

5. Having a vote (and voice) on the
    Graduate Student Council

6. Community service for SIU and the City of
    Carbondale

7. Brown Bag lunches for sharing
    conference papers and employment
    opportunities

8. Involvement with the department—a place
    to share ideas and learn from each other

Officers (as stated in the Constitution and Bylaws):
President – Shauna MacDonald (shamatkd@siu.edu) will preside at general meetings, executive committee meetings, and any special meetings of the SCO. The president will also serve as the graduate student representative at the department faculty meetings.

Vice President – Jim Petre (jpetre80@yahoo.com) will take over the President’s responsibilities in her/his absence, serve as Parliamentarian at any meetings of the SCO, and keep track of graduate student representatives to department and campus-wide committees.

Secretary – Jamie Huber (huberj@siu.edu) will post a blank agenda after each regular meeting in order to allow members and officers to contribute business items and will distribute minutes of each meeting within two (2) school days.

Treasurer – Andrew Kirk (akirk101@siu.edu) will keep track of accounts payable and accounts receivable for the SCO and will deposit money into SIU account within one day following any fundraiser (duties not specified in constitution).

Librarian – Debbie O'Neill (turtlegonow@hotmail.com) will be responsible for maintaining the Graduate Library and will serve as chair of the Library Committee.

Social Director – Erin Briddick (erinb@siu.edu) will initiate and advertise social events for the graduate students.
