Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC) offers students three types of one-for-one international exchange opportunities. One is the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP), the second is direct exchanges, and the third is the Utrecht Network-European Union Exchange. Currently, these exchange programs are available only to students enrolled at SIUC.

International Student Exchange Program (ISEP)ISEP offers one year
placements at more than 100 study sites around the world. It is a one-for-one
exchange plan under which SIUC students pay their normal fees and tuition,
including room and board, and apply the credit earned toward their degrees.

the PDF) Study sites are available in Africa, Asia, Australia, the British
Isles, Canada, Europe and Latin America. Students in any major may apply,
and those in scientific and technical fields are especially welcome. Applicants
must be mature, have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA and possess the appropriate
foreign language skills. Applications are due on September 1 for placements
beginning the following spring semester and in mid-January for the following
fall semester. Applications will be accepted after these dates on a space

A number of bilateral student exchanges between SIUC and overseas schools are coordinated either by the sponsoring academic department or by Study Abroad Programs. Sites are available in Japan, Australia, Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland and France. Most of these programs are restricted to juniors, seniors or graduate students. Eligibility requirements and application deadlines vary.
The Utrecht Network is a consortium of 22 European universities which offers advanced, self-motivated students the opportunity to enroll directly in university courses abroad. Students from any SIUC academic unit may participate in this program, subject to departmental approval. Institutions are located in Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Ireland, Austria, United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Spain, Greece, Netherlands, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland. Applications are due by February 1 for the first round of placements. Applications will be accepted after this date on a space available basis.
