Courses are offered during the summer months and intersessions. Taught by full-time faculty of the university, courses are offered world-wide in a variety of fields. This program is designed to introduce
students to the similarities in the culture (food, dance, music, family traditions
and religion) of people in Ghana and the cultures of people in the African
Diaspora. Program will include an overview of Ghanaian history and culture,
home visits, observations of traditional chief systems, visits with African
Americans living in Ghana, government officials, university students and faculty.
Requires instructor permission. This year's program will coincide with the 50th anniversary of Ghana's independence.

Le Petit Grand Tour d'Architecture - Spend 24 days in Europe, exploring sites in Italy and Greece. Salzburg College will offer a summer session from May 16 to June 23, 2007. Students will be expected to take two classes (6 credits) from among the following options: German language studies (various levels), Understanding Austria: History, Politics & Culture, Austrian Literature and Culture, The European Union, Music History, the Mozart Project or music performance studies. This course gives students hands-on training in the excavation of human skeletal remains from a 2nd–4th century AD Roman cemetery in southern Italy. In addition to learning how to excavate Roman burials, students will develop skills in the documentation and analysis of skeletal remains and associated burial artifacts. Egypt: Ancient Legacies (March 9-18, May 15-26 or June 10-21 2007)This year's interdisciplinary and
team-taught seminar will explore the contributions of Egypt to Western Civilization.
Participants in the seminar will also be able to enroll in the parallel Greece
seminar if they wish, since the dates are coordinated. The Egypt program will

Ancient Legacies (May 28 - June 10 or June 22 - July 6, 2007)This year's interdisciplinary and team-taught program will explore the contributions of Greece to Western Civilization (democracy, philosophy, and theater). Participants will also be able to enroll in the parallel programs to Egypt if they wish since the dates are coordinated. The Greek seminar will visit Athens, Delphi, Mycenae, Troy, Kusadasi, Ephesos, Priene, Miletos, Samos, and Kos. Also available through SIU Edwardsville.

Examine forestry management and recreational development in Ireland. Oaxaca is the political and economic center of the state of Oaxaca, as well as the home of two universities. The art and architecture of the region express the cultures of the fifteen indigenous groups which reside in the state and its Spanish and French heritage. The program features an interdisciplinary focus through field trips to community and social services as well as archaeological sites at Mitla and Monte Alban, the home of Benito Juarez, the Santo Domingo church and Anthropological Museum of Pre-Hispanic Art, Coyotepec (traditional black pottery), San Martin (traditional wooden carvings), and Teotitlan (traditional weaving). Students will explore how the environment, including architecture and design, impacts behavior and the sustainability of the culture.

This program is jointly arranged with the University of Applied Sciences in Coburg with the second week occurring in Munich.The program will focus on the increasingly important connection of human rights to social work, from both European and US perspectives. Field visits and seminars will focus on human rights issues, including child welfare, immigration policies, health care and religious, ethnic and political persecution. There will be opportunities to visit Salzburg, Neuschwanstein and other scenic areas.

Leiden University
Leiden offers an ISEP-Direct European Studies summer program focusing on European
culture and the interactions with other cultures that have shaped it. The
Netherlands provides an ideal setting for a study of this subject. The Dutch
have played a major role in European history and in the world through trade,
exploration and colonialism. Leiden - the site of a medieval university and
the point of departure for the pilgrims that first settled America - and its
neighboring cities are rich in art treasures and manuscripts documenting this
inheritance. 6 ECTS credits = 3 U.S. credits.

Four-week program designed specifically for a small group of foreign students
interested in Buddhism and Asian Studies with a focus on the complex relationship

as Ayudhaya, Pimai, Surin, and Chiangmai.

Université de Savoie
Intensive French language program at the beginner, low-intermediate, and advanced-intermediate
levels at the Université de Savoie, Chambéry. Instruction and
support services provided by the Institut Spécialisé de l'Enseignement
du Français aus Etrangers (ISEFE). Twenty hours of class per week for
five weeks. Field trips to sites in the scenic surrounding area and cultural
activities. There is a one-week break after the first 3 weeks of class - students
may stay in Chambéry [housing is provided], travel on their own, or
participate in activities/trips offered by the ISEFE. Chambéry is located
near the Alps, a couple of hours by train from Switzerland, Italy, and Paris.

Universidad Católica del Uruguay
Four-week program in Spanish language and Latin American History and Culture
combined with community service in Montevideo. Program includes morning classes,
community service in the afternoon, and weekly cultural activities (theatre,
tango, etc.) and a tour of Montevideo. Guided visits to some of the following
sites are included as well: coastal towns and hot springs. Community service
projects include serving the underprivileged and marginalized populations
in schools, youth centers, hospitals and displaced communities. Program is

Environment and Resource Management - Beginning in late June (tentative). Program length: 2 weeks.
The objectives are
to present the scientific knowledge about Environmental and Resource Management,
give an explanation of the vulnerability of the environment owing to different
pollution sources, and ways to solve environmental problems in coordination
of all relevant participants with the best non-polluting technologies. Then
the essential question of transfer to the results to policy makers, local
authorities and engineering companies will be debates to get an overview of
the future of some techniques in the treatment of different pollution sources
and problems.
