The fees that have been established by the Board of Trustees are payable by
all students as a condition of enrollment unless they are specifically exempted
by the Board of Trustees. All fees are considered to be institutional in nature
and require payment regardless of whether or not the student recieves direct
benefits or is in a location which permits access to such benefits.
Student Fees include:
- The Student-to-Student (STS) Grant Program Fee provides funding of a student
grant program. The fee is payable by undergraduate students only. Undergraduate
students who do not wish to participate in the program may seek a credit of the
fee by contacting the Office of Admissions and Records within ten days of the date
of payment of fees.
- The Students' Attorney Fee supports the budget of the Students' Attorney Program.
- The Student Center Fee Provides funding for operation of the Student Center.
- The Student Activity Fee provides funding for student organizations and activities
on campus, including $1.15 in funding for Campus Safety and $4.00 in support of
Rainbow's End Child Development Center.
- The Student Recreation Fee provides funding for operation of the Student
Recreation Center and associated programs.
- The Athletic Fund Fee provides partial funding of the University's intercollegiate
programs for men and women.
- The Campus Recreation Fee provides funding for recreational facilities and
programs external to the Student Recreation Center.
- The Student Medical Benefit Fee provides funding for a comprehensive health
program. The fee is comprised of the SMB: Primary Care Fee and the SMB: Extended
Care Fee. Students who pay these fees are entitled to full medical benefits at the
Health Service. Students who feel they have comparable coverage may apply for a
refund of the SMB Extended Care Fee within the first two weeks of a Fall or Spring
semester or within the first week of a summer session. Additional information may
be found in Chapter 6 of the Undergraduate Catalog.
- The Revenue Bond Fee replaces funds which were previously obtained from tuition
payments and used to underwrite the funded debt operations of the Student Center and
University Housing.
- The Mass Transit fee provides funding for bus transportation to on-campus and
certain Carbondale locations.
- The Information Technology fee provides funding for the campus network infrastructure.
- The Student Services Building fee provides funding for a planned new student
services facility.
