Nondeclared Graduate Students
Any person who wishes to be admitted to the Graduate School but who is not interested
in applying or is not eligible to apply to a graduate degree program at this time, may
apply as a Nondeclared Graduate Student (enrollment in this category is limited to U.S.
citizens and Permanent Residents). Admission as a Nondeclared Graduate Student
allows the student to take courses for graduate credit, but undergraduate courses
may also be taken. There is no minimum gpa requirement.
The only requirement for admission as a Nondeclared student is:
- Proof of a completed Bachelor's degree
- Submission of a Nondeclared application form and
- Payment of a $50 nonrefundable application fee
(fee can be waived with proof of university employment).
You may remain a Nondeclared graduate student for as long as you wish. However,
there are limitations with regard to financial aid. Your eligibility to apply for
loans is limited to 12 months, beginning from the month you first enroll as a
Nondeclared student, and ending 12 months later, whether or not you are enrolled
for all of the 12 month period, and whether or not you obtain financial aid for the
entire year. Loan amounts are limited to the undergraduate loan limits of $10,500.
Details on funding available may be obtained from the Financial Aid Office, 3rd floor
of Woody Hall, 618 453-4334. As a Nondeclared student you are not eligible to apply
for Graduate School Fellowships or Tuition Waiver Scholarships and are not
normally eligible to apply for graduate assistantships.

To be admitted you must submit:
- A completed Nondeclared Graduate School application form
- A $50 nonrefundable application fee; this may be paid in cash, by check,
or by money order. If you are a permanent employee of SIUC, the fee
may be waived upon presentation of your appointment card to Jane. You can also
pay online by credit card through the online Nondeclared application.
- Proof of a completed Bachelor's degree (or higher graduate degree);
- If you have graduated from a university other than SIUC, you must have an
official transcript sent directly to Jane from the school you attended or
you may have an official transcript sent directly to you, and bring the transcript
to Jane in a sealed envelope unopened by you.
- If sending a transcript by mail, please request that it be addressed
specifically to Jane at the address as listed above
- If you have graduated or are graduating from SIUC, no transcript is required. If you
are completing a Bachelor's degree at this time, you must obtain from your undergraduate
advisor a "graduation clearance form" - basically a statement from your advisor verifying
that you are expected to graduate and on what date. This must be brought or mailed to Jane Klucker
in the Admissions Office. You may also fax it to her at (618) 453-4562. You will be admitted based
on the assumption that you will graduate on the date listed on the form.
