While I like working with a diverse caseload of clients presenting with a variety of issues, I am particularly interested in working with clients recovering from trauma, interpersonal relationship difficulties, eating disorders, and chronic mental health difficulties. I also have research, assessment, and clinical experience working with student-athletes and students who have ADHD or learning difficulties. I like to look at each individual through a multicultural lens, taking into consideration their unique experience and culture in order to increase my understanding of their circumstance. I draw from a number of theoretical interventions and perspectives, but tend to draw heavily from Interpersonal Process theories and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
My other interests include anything that involves playing or watching sports. I love playing tennis and basketball or tracking my fantasy football players. I also enjoy spending time with friends and family, watching movies, reading a good book, and eating good food.
While I enjoy working with a number of various clinical issues, I have a specific interest in areas related to women's mental health and well being. I have both research and clinical experience in the area of disordered eating. Other clinical experience includes work in areas related to trauma, depression, and anxiety. I also enjoy working with individuals who struggle with more chronic mental health difficulties, addressing both barriers to, and opportunities for, improved well being. Stigma and oppression can be an important part of people's experiences of themselves and the world. I work hard to attend to these issues in session, paying attention to the complexity of each client's experience and context. I embrace philosophies from a number of different school of thought, but I am most especially influenced by feminist and psychodynamic theory.
Other interests include anything that takes me outdoors! I love walking and hiking all year round. I also love skiing, skating and a good snowball fight. When I am not playing outside, I love old movies, good books, wine and gourmet food-although I prefer not to have to cook it.

I am interested in psychological assessment, including assessment for learning disabilities and ADDHD. I work with students who have a wide variety of presenting problems, including depression and anxiety, student who have experienced abuse, and students with persistent mental illnesses. I enjoy working with students with diverse backgrounds and characteristics, including international students, American minority students, and GLBT students.
I am one of several dedicated cooks and bakers on the Counseling Center staff. I love to read, and have read at least three murder mysteries a week for many years. My family and pets (who are definitely part of the family) are very important to me.

I have experience working with students who suffer from depression, anxiety, or problems with anger management, are troubled by experiences of physical/emotional/sexual abuse or accident trauma; students and couples who are having difficulties in their intimate relationships; students who have trouble coping with loss, divorce, and other major life changes; and students who have difficulty with motivation and self-control. I enjoy working with students of all ages, from diverse backgrounds and all walks of life.
Outside interests include travel, experiencing new places and meeting new people, listening to music, trying out new recipes and outdoor cooking, relaxing with family, friends, and my dog, and spending time browsing in book and specialty stores.

I do a lot of work with clients struggling with relationship issues (e.g., with family, partners, friends, roommates, or people they work with). I see a large number of "survivors", defined broadly to include adult children of alcoholics, physical and/or emotional abuse survivors, and incest survivors-essentially clients from a wide variety of dysfunctional families. While I do a great deal of individual work, I also very much enjoy working with couples and groups. Finally, I enjoy working with students from a variety of diverse backgrounds including racial/ethnic minorities, GLB, and international students.
I am an avid bicycle rider, both road and off road. I very much enjoy the trails, forests, and lakes of the area's Shawnee National Forest. I particularly enjoy seeing the birds, mammals, and rich plant life to be found there. Nothing adds more to the above than being able to share it with family or good friends. Finally, I very much enjoy a good book in front of the fireplace on a cold winter day.

I have experience in working with students who have experienced physical/sexual/emotional abuse; are struggling with body image, food issues, or who have an eating disorder; students who find themselves overwhelmed by their emotions; and students who engage in self-defeating behaviors. Additionally, I work with students from diverse multi-cultural backgrounds including GLBT, American racial minorities, international students, and first generation college students.
Enjoyable activities include baking and cooking or family and friends, spending time in the beauty of the Southern Illinois outdoors, listening to jazz and blues, reading children's books, and spending time with my family and friends.

I have experience working with individuals with identity development issues as well as a variety of life transition or adjustment issues. I have also worked with clients who struggle with anxiety and depression. I have treated male survivors of sexual abuse in both individual and group therapy. I enjoy helping students with self-esteem issues, as well as body image issues for both men and women. I have considerable experience helping young people who engage in high risk behaviors such as the use of alcohol and other drugs and sexual activity. Finally, I have a great deal of experience in career development. I enjoy working with all people including individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and GLBT students.
From a non-clinical perspective, I also enjoy working out, cooking, arts and cultural events, movies, entertaining family and friends, interior design, and travel.
