Writing

Next to exams, papers are the most commonly used method professors use to evaluate your knowledge and ability. It is through your writing that they assess your critical thinking and your ability to organize and express yourself. Solid writing skills will also help with essay questions on exams. Unfortunately, many students come to the university setting with poorly developed writing skills. Here at SIUC, there is a great deal of help for students who wish to improve their writing.

Writing Center

SIUC Writing Center, Faner 2281, 618-453-6863
The Writing Center offers free tutoring services to all SIUC undergraduates and graduate students. The English Department operates three Writing Centers across campus open to all SIUC students who would like assistance with any aspect of their writing:
The Writing Center in Room 2281 of Faner Hall serves the central campus and is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 453-6863.
Lentz Writing Center in the lower-level computer lab of Lentz Hall serves the west campus and is open Sunday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Call 453-2573.
Trueblood Writing Center in the lower level computer lab of Trueblood Hall serves the east campus and is open Sunday 6-9 p.m. through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
