According to National Park Service Superintendent Gerard Baker "It provides a public touring exhibition that addresses topics of local interest beginning with Thomas Jefferson at Monticello and continues for a three-year cross-country venture to educate, entertain, and inform." The traveling exhibit includes two interpretive tents with exhibits and a performance tent entitled the Tent of Many Voices. Approaching the entrance, visitors will come face to face with colorful life size images of Indians painted in the 1830's by George Catlin and Karl Bodmer.
