Gather Your Family Stories During the Holidays

Four Ways to Gather Family History

1. Find old photos or photo albums and ask your family elders to tell the stories (Make sure to write the date, people, and places on the back of the photos.)

2. Gather old things--quilts, linens, furniture, wood carvings, tools, and ask family members about the history.

3. Develop a timeline with your parents, grandparents, or older relatives and compare family happenings with national and world events.

4. Talk about celebrations, holidays, food, music, and family gatherings from long ago.

Record (video or audio) if possible, but make sure to write the stories. For more information, visit your library.
