Partners of the National Bicentennial

Lewis and Clark Trail National Park Service 

Gerard Baker, has been the Superintendent of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail during the designing and preparation of Corps of Discovery II and "getting it on the road." He said, "It was my job to build relationships between and among American Indian Tribes, Congress and the Lewis and Clark Caucus, and with communities along the trail." Baker will be returning to Montana as the State Coordinator for the Intermountain Region. See information on page 31 about the Corps II. 

Federal Interagency Partnership

The Lewis and Clark Federal Interagency Partnership is comprised of agencies who have an interest in the Lewis and Clark Expedition. They include Agriculture: Forest Service, Natural Resources Conservation Services; Army: Corps of Engineers, National Guard; Education, Energy; Homeland Security; Coast  guard, Interior: Indian Affairs, Land Management, Reclamation, Fish and Wildlife, National Park Service; Geological Survey, Transportation; Federal Highway Administration; Mint; Environmental Protection Agency; Museum and Library Services; Archives and Records Administration; National Endowment for the Arts; National Endowment for the Humanities; and the Smithsonian. Co-Chairs are Tom Fulton, Dept. of the Interior, and Michele Dawson, Bureau of Land Management, Washington, D.C. 

Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Congressional Caucus 

"The 82 member House and Senate Caucuses act as a unified voice in Congress to help coordinate and provide the resources that communities need to commemorate the Bicentennial. The Caucuses help local communities and Tribes promote and enhance tourism opportunities that reflect unique local characteristics, interests, and history. Tom Fulton, Department of the Interior, is the Caucus Chair. 

Planning Beyond the Bicentennial 

The Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation, Inc. recently commissioned the Third Century Committee to assist the Board of Directors in planning for the years immediately following the Bicentennial. The Committee will have its first formal meeting in Great Falls, Montana on February 19-20, 2004. Chair Jim Gramentine from Wisconsin, has urged his eleven colleagues to "think out of the box . . . with one foot still grounded in reality." President Ron Laycock and Carol Bronson, are ex officio members which also includes board member Jane Weber. Foundation members on the committee are Bill Bronson, Page Henley, Darrell Martin, Jim Rosenberger and Herman Viola. Others are Ralph Ehrenberg, George Horse Capture, and Bob Weis. "This is an extraordinary group" said Gramentine, "we hope to present our report during the 2005 annual meeting.
