Limited Proposal Submissions
Certain grant programs limit the number of proposals or letters of intent they will accept from an institution. When more researchers want to apply than are allowed, the University must decide which proposals will go forward to the agency.
To facilitate a fair decision process, researchers wanting to apply to a limited-submissions program are asked to submit a Notification of Intent to Apply to a Grant Program form to ORDA at least 30 calendar days before the agency deadline for letters of intent (or for full proposals if letters of intent are not requested). In the case of certain popular programs, such as NEH's Summer Stipends Program, ORDA will announce an internal deadline for letters of intent and/or full proposals; this may be more than 30 days in advance of the agency deadline. (Other exceptions to the 30-day deadline may occasionally be necessitated by holiday breaks and will be announced on our web site or in Research Matters.)
To help researchers plan, the table below tracks limited-submissions programs for which ORDA has received at least one notification of intent to apply (triggering the 30-day deadline), or for which we have set an internal deadline for letters of intent or preliminary proposals.
If the number of notifications received by the 30-day deadline meets or exceeds the program's limit, submissions will be closed. If the number exceeds the limit, a review process will be set up and each potential applicant will be alerted that a 3- to 5-page project description, 1-page budget, and curriculum vitas will be due to ORDA 15 calendar days before the agency deadline. The Vice Chancellor for Research will establish a committee to oversee proposal selection.
If the number of notifications received by the 30-day deadline does NOT exceed the limit, ORDA will take any subsequent Intent to Apply forms on a first-come, first-accepted basis. When the program limit is reached, no further notifications will be accepted and submissions will be closed.
