Faculty Seed Grant Program

The FY2008 application deadline for this program has passed. Look for the FY2009 deadline in November 2008.

arrow iconOverview

Full-time faculty members on continuing appointment may apply to this program. Seed grants, which are competitive, peer-reviewed awards, are intended to fund a variety of research, scholarly, and creative activities in order to allow faculty to better compete for external funding. They enable faculty to run a pilot study, analyze preliminary data, do background research on an issue, complete a key stage in a larger scientific, scholarly, or artistic project, or otherwise lay the groundwork for an externally funded project.

Proposals are reviewed by designated faculty committees. Grants are made for a period of one year. Faculty may request one month of summer salary, a graduate assistant or student worker, and other-than-salary (OTS) funds. The latter can include such things as equipment, commodities, contractual services, travel to research sites (not to conferences), and automotive (for rental of University vehicle for travel to research sites). The total request, excluding summer salary for the applicant, may not exceed $20,000.

Application

Note: We are leaving the old (FY2008) application materials posted here so that faculty can become familiar with the requirements of the program and proposal preparation. The application packet will be updated for the FY2009 competition. The Faculty Seed Grant Application (fillable PDF) includes proposal guidelines, a cover sheet, and a budget form.

Instructions for fillable PDF: If you have Adobe Acrobat 4.0 or higher, you can save the document to your hard drive (hold down SHIFT while clicking on the link), fill it out onscreen, then print it. You can also fill the form out using the free Adobe Reader software, although you will not be able to save the filled-out information on your hard drive. If you cannot access PDF files, you can obtain the form from your department or from ORDA (call 453-4540).

Completed applications cannot be submitted electronically. Please bring or send to the Office of Research Development and Administration, Woody Hall C-206, mailcode 4709. Forms also may be obtained by calling ORDA at 453-4540.
