Graduate Technology Enhancement Grants
Every fiscal year the SIUC Graduate Technology Surcharge Advisory Board funds projects that address the technology needs of graduate students on the campus. Look for the FY2009 deadline for this program in January 2009.
BACKGROUND: In FY00 SIUC approved a technology surcharge for all students, including graduate students. The purpose of this fee is to generate new annual revenue to improve available technology for students, making it more closely approach the state of the art. The portion of the technology surcharge funds generated from graduate students is allocated to address graduate student needs. This surcharge from graduate students typically generates over $40,000 per year.
ELIGIBILITY: Proposals are accepted from faculty, A/P staff, and graduate students from any SIUC campus unit whose graduate technology fees are included in this fund (i.e., all except the School of Law and the School of Medicine-Springfield, whose graduate technology fees are maintained within those units).
PROPOSAL GUIDELINES: Proposals should be no more than 3 double-spaced pages in length, excluding budget and budget justification. Minimum requirements for proposals are: clear description of project and its goals; timeline and plan for implementation; assessment of impact; and a budget.
A new application form will be posted for FY2009.
SELECTION: Proposals are evaluated by the Graduate Technology Surcharge Advisory Board (3 graduate students, the Dean of the Graduate School, and 1 member of the graduate faculty). Criteria for selection of projects include the quality of the proposed project and the breadth of the impact of the project on the overall graduate student population. Projects that include matching funds or leveraging of additional resources from within, or outside of, the university may receive priority.
DEADLINE for Receipt of Proposals: TBA. Five copies of the completed proposal should be submitted to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Anthony Hall 220, mailcode 4344, or e-mailed to plpp@siu.edu.
