The
Department of Agribusiness Economics offers graduate courses
dealing with the economic and business aspects of managing
farms, agribusiness firms, and organizations providing services
to agribusiness and other parts of the rural economy. The
program is built upon the disciplines of economics and business
management. The major objective of the program is to give
students the capacity to understand and apply decision-making
tools to solve the problems of farms, agribusiness firms,
and governmental agencies is the major objective of the
program.
Graduates
are found in decision-making positions on farms, with farm
supply firms (e.g., feed, chemicals, machinery), in marketing
firms (e.g., commodity brokers, livestock markets, grain
elevators), and with private and public organizations providing
services (e.g., farm management, finance, insurance, education,
extension) to farms, agribusiness, and the rural sector.
Former students also work in the areas of rural development
and natural resources/environmental policy. Specific activities
of graduates range from making day-to-day operational decisions
to those involving research, planning, and matters of policy.
