The Association for Computing Machinery Student Chapter was created to represent the student population of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale that are studying or are interested in computer related areas.
This club shall strive to provide information/services related to computing. It will provide interaction between faculty and students and computer industry representatives.
Article I LEGISLATIVE BRANCH

All powers of legislation shall be vested in the voting members of the organization. Legislative powers include proposing new constitutional amendments and voting on ACM related affairs.
The body of the organization shall consist of students (or spouses of students) and faculty at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Regular meetings shall be held the first week of each month during the spring and fall semesters. The meeting time can be changed as deemed appropriate by the ACM officers to accommodate speakers' schedules, meeting room schedules or any other extenuating circumstance.

Executive powers shall be vested in the elected officers.
The officers, consisting of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Membership Officer, shall be elected from the body of the organization and shall hold office for one year.
The President and Vice President must have been enrolled as a full time student at the Carbondale campus for a minimum of two consecutive semesters before taking office.
All executive branch members must maintain at least a 2.0 overall grade point average and a 2.5 grade point average in computer science and must be in good academic disciplinary standing.
The President and Vice President must have at least a junior standing at the time their term of office begins.
The Membership Officer shall maintain a current list of members, advertise meetings, schedule meeting rooms, and oversee recruitment in a supervisory or active role.
The Treasurer shall keep track of petty cash, moneys in all ACM accounts, the collection of dues, and organizing fund-raisers in a supervisory or active role.
The Secretary shall maintain a current web page, keep records of meetings and activities, and oversee ACM internet activities in a supervisory or active role. (amended)
The Vice President shall carry out the Presidents duties when the President is unable, assist the President in locating speakers, and oversee preparation of topics and contents of meetings in a supervisory or active role.
The President shall locate potential speakers, discuss them with the other officers, act as a liaison for the ACM, and organize field trips in a supervisory or active role.
Article III JUDICIAL BRANCH

Judicial power shall be vested in the membership of the organization. Judicial powers include the power of impeachment of officers.

In order to vote in an election a voter must be a registered student at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and have attended two regular meetings, and must have paid the membership fee for the year.
Each eligible voter may cast one vote for each office available.
Elections for new officers shall be held annually in April with the specific date being determined by the membership.
Addition elections may be held if an officer resigns, or is unable to serve the full term. If the president's office must be replaced, the next ranking officer will hold the office. Rank is as follows: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Membership Officer. Elections may be held to replace any other office as needed throughout the term.
Article V LIMITED SERVICE
The club President may not serve as an elected officer of any other Registered Student Organization.
Article VI IMPEACHMENT
The executive officers may be impeached for malfeasance in office or dereliction of duty. Impeachment shall be effected by a two-thirds roll call vote of the eligible present voting body, and must be instigated by six eligible members on petition.
Article VII AMENDMENT

To amend the Constitution or bylaws of the organization, a proposal must be submitted, in writing, to the executive officers or by petition signed by members of the organization.
Bylaw amendments shall be ratified by a majority approval of the eligible members.
Article VIII ADVISORS
The Computer Science department chairperson will designate a faculty member to serve as the club's advisor.
Article IX RATIFICATION
This Constitution shall be fully ratified after its presentation by a majority vote of the organization's eligible present voters at the time of its introduction. This process shall be used for all constitutional changes.
Article X ENABLING ACT
After this document has been ratified, it shall take effect immediately. The advisor shall supervise the enabling of this Constitution.
Article XI Internet Activities Maintenance

The home page is to be maintained by the secretary and updated as necessary with written approval by a majority of the officers. It should only include information regarding meetings, activities, membership and ACM national information. Updates should be completed within four business days of written approval. The password should be updated annually, or whenever there is a change of persons with knowledge of it. Two officers shall be informed of the password for security purposes. (amended)
Guidelines shall be established by the current officers.
Officer pages shall meet specific guidelines set by the current officers and shall be approved by an officer majority before posting.
Amendments

A Webmaster will be selected from the body of the organization and hold office for one year. The Webmaster shall maintain a current web page and oversee ACM internet activities in a supervisory or active role.
The duties of the Secretary are revised. The Secretary shall maintain a record of meetings and activities. This includes taking meeting minutes and recording member attendance. The Secretary will also assist the Webmaster in his duties if necessary.
Major updates to the ACM website shall only be made with a majority approval of officers (including approval acquired electronically). Minor updates such as corrections to spelling, layout issues, or script debugging shall be allowed without approval. The Webmaster may be required to immediately remove content by a majority vote of officers (excepting Webmaster), or by order of the faculty advisor.
