Fire Service Management Capstone Option

Students entering the Fire Service Management program with a previously earned Associate in Applied Science degree with a grade point average of 2.25 or better that included technical course work related to the fire service or the equivalent certification may be admitted to the Capstone Option. Detailed requirements for this special option can be found in the current SIUC Bulletin/Undergraduate Catalog. Students who qualify and are admitted to Capstone have their University Core Curriculum requirements reduced to 30 semester hours minimum. However, they still must meet the minimum 120 semester-hour degree requirement. Degree requirements for students admitted to the Capstone Option include:

University Core Curriculum ..................... 30

Most students fulfill the Approved Career Electives requirement through previous education related to the major, previous occupational education credit related to the major, and/or previous work experience credit related to the major. This includes military and civilian technical training, MOS/NER/AFSC credit, and experience.

SIUC's College of Applied Sciences and Arts is a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges(SOC). In keeping with membership in SOC, transfer credit is accepted in all areas to include the major. However, each student must complete a minimum of 30 semester hours of course work with SIUC to meet SIUC residency requirements. Each student also must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in all work taken at SIUC.
