Curriculum

It all starts here...

Students in the ATEP will be required to complete a rigorous academic major that includes courses in athletic training, human physiology, human anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, chemistry, psychology, health, and fitness testing. Specific courses within the ATEP include Introduction to Athletic Training, Clinical Applications in Athletic Training, Clinical Experience I-VI, Therapeutic Modalities, General Medical Conditions, Upper Body Assessment, Lower Body Assessment, Pharmacotherapy, Rehabilitation of Athletic Injuries, Medical Aspects, Organization & Administration, Psychology of Injury, and Research in Athletic Training. Through specific course sequencing and both structured and semi-structured learning experiences in the classroom, in the lab, and in the field, the student will be exposed to the SIUC ATEP learning and evaluation over time model, which consists of Exposure, Practice, Application, Skill Mastery, and Process Integration [EPAMI]. The ultimate goal of the ATEP is to provide the student with the requisite skills and knowledge to be a confident, competent healthcare professional.
