IAMG Student Chapter at SIUC

The Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC) Student Chapter of the  International Association for Mathematical Geology was founded in August 2004 by students interested in geology and mathematics. The mission of the student chapter is to “promote the use of mathematics in geoscience education and research.” The current membership consists of approximately 15 students and 4 faculty members.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a large, research-oriented institution situated in a pleasant small-town setting southeast of St. Louis. The home of the SIUC IAMG Student Chapter is in the Department of Geology. In most of the research projects, application of mathematical and digital data processing techniques is emphasized.

The Geology Department at SIUC consists of 11 faculty members plus instructors, support staff, and about 70 enthusiastic undergraduate, MS, and ER&P PhD  (Ph.D. in Environmental Resources and Policy) students. A recent external review characterized the SIUC geology program as "a very good to excellent mid-sized geology department." The faculty and students are active in Illinois, across the U.S., and worldwide, with current projects on 5 continents.

If you have any question about the SIUC IAMG Student Chapter please do not hesitate to contact us.
