ATTACHMENT CResolution to Approve an RME to Change the Name of the Home Economics
Education Specialization in the B.S. in Workforce Education and Development
to Family and Consumer Sciences Education, College of Education and Human ServicesWHEREAS the proposed change will reflect a recent action taken by the Illinois State Board of Education which adopted the new name of Family and Consumer Sciences in place of Home Economics; and
WHEREAS this name change has affected agency activities/initiative such as teacher reporting, teacher certification and student enrollment; and
WHEREAS the proposed name change would enhance recruitment and retention of students, while more appropriately representing the current mission and purpose of this field of study; and
WHEREAS these changes will have no effect on existing programs, curriculums, faculty, or need for additional equipment, budget, and facilities and is supported by the faculty of the College of Education and Human Services;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Faculty Senate approve and recommend to the appropriate administrative bodies this College's request to change the name of the Home Economics Education specialization in the B.S. in Workforce Education and Development to Family and Consumer Sciences Education, College of Education and Human Services; and that the 2003-2004 SIUC Undergraduate Catalog be edited in all instances appropriate to reflect this change: Effective Spring semester 2002.
