Resolution to Approve Proposed Amendments to the SIUC Clean Air Policy

WHEREAS the SIUC Clean Air Policy prohibits smoking in indoor areas and university vehicles; and

WHEREAS smoke infiltrating university buildings from outdoor areas endangers the clean and safe environment for all,

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Faculty Senate approve and recommend to the Chancellor the request by the SIUC Center for Environmental Health and Safety to amend the SIUC Clean Air Policy to restrict or prohibit smoking in outdoor area based on the impact on indoor air quality of smoke entering buildings through infiltration, and to allow the Center for Environmental Health and Safety to make the determination on a case by case basis of whether the outdoor smoking should be restricted or prohibited based on an indoor air quality survey. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Faculty Senate approve and recommend to the Chancellor the request by the SIUC Center for Environmental Health and Safety to amend the SIUC Clean Air Policy with the following "clean-up" language: 1) to add "1." under II "Rules" and 2) to delete "associate" and capitalize the remaining nouns in the title of "the associate vice chancellor for Research and dean of the Graduate School" in II.(B) so that it reads "Vice Chancellor for Research and Dean of the Graduate School."
