UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION POLICY COMMITTEE
AppendixResolution on the Change in Degree Names from B.A. to B.S.
in Biological Sciences, Microbiology and Physiology, College of Science
[as amended]WHEREAS the B.A.’s in Biological Sciences, Microbiology and Physiology, were appropriate when the College of Science and the College of Liberal Arts were the same academic unit; and
WHEREAS over the years, the College of Science has modified the curricula of these degrees to match more specifically science programs of study, such as dropping foreign language and adding chemistry requirements; and
WHEREAS the College of Education and Human Services offers B.S. Degrees with a focus on teacher education that have the same coursework in the sciences as the College of Science's B.A. degrees, an inconsistency that is a disadvantage to the science graduate because of the regard for the B.S. degree for careers in science; and
WHEREAS an RME from the College of Science seeks to correct these inconsistencies in the undergraduate degrees in the life sciences;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Faculty Senate recommend the change in degree names from B.A. to B.S. in Biological Sciences, Microbiology and Physiology, in the College of Science.
