Proposed Changes to SIU’s Policy on Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action
APPENDIX 1

WHEREAS a university’s affirmative action policy can dramatically affect the quality of its faculty, staff, student body, and academic programs; and

WHEREAS a university’s affirmative action policy constitutes a public statement defining the institutional commitment to all members of its community; and

WHEREAS the Faculty Senate was informed previously by representatives from SIU’s central administration that the Senate would have the opportunity to discuss proposed changes in SIU’s Affirmative Action Policy prior to when the policy would be presented to the Board of Trustees;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Faculty Senate urges the Board of Trustees to postpone taking action on the proposed changes to Article VII Statutes of the Board of Trustees of SIU Policy on Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action until such time that the Faculty Senate has had the opportunity to obtain, review, and discuss SIUC’s Affirmative Action Advisory Committee’s report on the proposed changes and to formulate its own recommendations.
