Financial Aid - SIU Cost Calculator Academic Year 2008-09

The following cost calculator is provided to assist you in determining the amount of financial aid you will need to cover your expenses while attending SIUC. Comparing your expenses to your resources should put you in a better position to evaluate your need for loan funds.

The costs below are estimates based on assumptions about enrollment and housing. They do not particularly reflect your enrollment and housing status and, therefore, are not an exact representation of your cost at SIUC. If you feel you need more detailed information about required student fees, please visit the Records and Registration Tuition and Fees Cost website at http://registrar.siu.edu/records/costs.htm page.

Budget Worksheet

The SIUC Educational Cost Components cannnot be increased. Educational costs are determined by the Financial Aid Office and represent the maximum amount of financial aid resources a student can receive unless additional educational expenses have been documented & approved by Financial Aid.

Press the 'Check Costs and Resources' button at the bottom to automatically calculate based on the figures entered. It is suggested that you print the worksheet to retain for your records. The data you enter here will not be saved in the system.

How much do I need to borrow?

Federal Direct Loans

If your Total Resources exceed your Total Expenses, it is probably not necessary for you to borrow for school. However, if your expenses exceed your resources, you may wish to borrow from the Federal Direct Loan Program.

Less Total Expenses -
Shortfall

Compare the shortfall figure to the Federal Direct Loan(s) you have been offered. If the loan exceeds the shortfall, we recommend borrowing only the amount needed to cover your expenses.

Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students

Dependent students may have a Parent Loan (PLUS) included in their award offer. The following calculation can be used by your parents to assist in determining the need for a PLUS Loan:
