The function of this position will be to provide assistance to the supervisor and bull test evaluation station manager. This position will assist both the faculty supervisor and bull test manager from August till May. During this time the student will be one of the contact personnel fielding questions from industry representatives, consignors, and buyers. The student must keep accurate records including registration paper, health documentation, feed intakes, body weights, breeding soundness and ultrasound evaluations, and billing information. The student will be responsible for maintaining the web-site, preparing monthly reports, soliciting and preparing advertisements, and preparing the sale catalog.

Horse Center Assistant Manger

The Horse Center Operations Assistant Manager will be assigned self-directed projects as well as be required to participate in or supervise routine Horse Center activities. This student will assist with all aspects of the public services and fee-for-service activities provided by the SIU Equine Science Program, including horse breeding services, educational clinics and seminars, etc. This student will also be required to schedule and supervise undergraduate students during performance of their required horse care duties.
Candidate must have an advanced working mastery of the rudiments of horse farm management, both from the animal and the facilities management perspective. The successful candidate will be an upperclassman in the Equine Science Program. Preference will be given to students who have completed the Stable Management class, and therefore would have had some personnel supervisory experience. The Assistant Operations Manager will be interfacing with a diverse student body and must possess good interpersonal skills and have a motivational personality. Physical labor will be required in this position, so the candidate must be in good physical condition (able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds). Since the student in this position will be supervising undergraduate students during their required animal care duties, working hours will be variable, but must include early morning (6 am) and afternoon (4 pm) choring time and some weekends.

Phytomedicine Researcher

This Phytomedicine Researcher paraprofessional work experience will train the student in lab skills, lab management and industry coaction. The successful candidate will acquire skills necessary to manage and co-supervise an industry funded research project. The candidate will develop management skills with an industry funded research mentor. The paraprofessional will gain these skills working on a phytomedicine research project funded by Kellogg's.

Horticulture Food Crops Technician

The incumbent will assist in the execution of field research with horticultural food crops, such as vegetables, grapes, apples, and peaches. The incumbent will collect and analyze data and manage the experimental crop plantings under the supervision of the team advisors and associated personnel. Examples of research responsibilities include measuring sugar and acid levels to determine quality and maturity of wine and table grapes; use automated penetrometer to determine peach and apple quality and maturity; apple defect and quality criterion to grade fruits and vegetables; sample light and gas exchange (i.e. photosynthesis of experimental crops); assist with establishment, maintenance and data collection of cover crops; canopy management and rootstock research in grapes; conduct research on specialty vegetable crops relating to sustainability of local food production systems; and to perform various other duties related to conducting research in horticultural food crops. The incumbent is also required to: keep a daily journal of activities, interact with other personnel in a professional and cooperative manner, maintenance of research equipment, and participate in regular group meetings lead by the Horticultural Food Crop Faculty
Candidate must be physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs. Must also tolerate the rigors of the outdoor environment; extremes in heat, cold humidity, dust, pollen and sunlight. Candidates must be willing to travel to outlying research stations and on-farm demonstration plots. Driver's license is required. The candidate must be willing to participate in a summer internship program to augment professional development. Candidate must also possess a strong willingness to work in the food crop area of horticulture and must obtain an Illinois Pesticide Applicator's License, keep a daily journal, interact effectively with other personnel and participate in professional meetings. Sophomore/junior/senior standing in an agricultural, biological or applied sciences major is required. A GPA above 2.5 in SIUC courses is also required. Herbicide Resistant Weed Investigator

The successful candidate will function as part of the Weed Science team to confirm or dispute the presence of herbicide-resistant weed populations. Duties will include travel for collection of plant specimens and seeds, care for plant specimens in a research greenhouse, seed cleaning, seed storage and inventory keeping, germination testing, plant propagation, herbicide screening, data collection, data analysis, summarization of results and communication of results via electronic and printed media
Investigation of a suspected herbicide-resistant weed population will require at least some prior knowledge of plant identification, plant propagation, plant care and data collection. The ideal candidate would have a natural affinity for plants and/or experience in greenhouse operations. The student must have planning and leadership skills.

Irrigation System Management Specialist

Radiography Laboratory Assistant

To provide adjuvant laboratory instruction and evaluation of student radiographer competencies. To assist with maintaining an energized X-ray laboratory and associated X-ray darkroom, automatic processor, chemicals, and film. This individual must work effectively with students and with other Radiologic Sciences faculty members. The person chosen for the position of Radiography Lab Assistant becomes the student representative to the Radiologic Sciences Program Advisory Committee.
Qualified applicant must be a senior Radiologic Sciences student, and a registered radiographer (radiologic technologist) through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, or through an acceptable international accrediting agency. He or she must be able to 1) lift, push & pull 50 pounds of weight 2) assist with moving the necessary positioning phantoms (mannequins) 3) assist with moving the X-ray tube, table, upright Bucky tray as necessary for each examination 4) bend, stoop & stand for periods of time 5) effectively communicate with student radiographers & other Radiologic Sciences faculty in both oral & written forms 6) work with the automatic processor & chemicals used in the development of X-ray film. Assistant Professor Robert Swenson in re-organizing research conducted by students and Community Listeners related to southernmost Illinois development history during the Preservation Summer class experience since 2001. The assistant will review, re-organize, reformat, digitize, develop annotated bibliographies for, and other similar activities that will prepare the collection for both on-line web-based research opportunities and for permanent archival storage and retrieval by future researchers. The assistant will also assist me in conducting the development of a Preservation Summer Website and placing these material on-line as part of the School of Architecture website and/or the Department of History Website
Students must be in good standing in the 3rd or 4th year - Architecture or Interior Design programs, or seniors in other majors may qualify. Examining Product Placement and Mobile Coupons on Wireless Devices

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the faculty member in conducting consumer research on the effectiveness of product placements presented via non-traditional media formats, such as online consumption of movies and television or consumption of media using mobile devices, such as cell phones or handheld PDAs. We will also explore the "best practices" for sending promotional messages via messaging, such as promotional offers sent to users via text messages. Duties will include, but are not limited to the following 1) to read and summarize current academic and professional research in product placement and mobile coupons/promotions 2) to research and summarize product placement types/formats in non-traditional /new media 3) to investigate the design elements of a mobile commerce interface that contribute most to consumer persuasion 4) to measure the types of advertising functions evoked by content presented on mobile devices 5) assist in the graphic design of different internet/mobile commerce interfaces that vary in the type of advertising function evoked 6) to conduct experiments measuring consumer attitudes towards and recall of product placements presented via online or mobile interfaces 7) to conduct experiments measuring the effectiveness of and redemption rates for different promotional offers sent via text messages and, 8) to gain experience in the data collection, statistical analyses, and research report-writing.
Must be a junior or senior undergraduate with a GPA of at least 3.0. Preference is for a creative person who has a good understanding of advertising and the internet and is interested in consumer behavior on the internet or via mobile devices. Forensic Accounting is a critical area in the Accounting profession and has received increased attention more recently with the failures of several large companies, i.e. Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, etc. In 2002 Congress passed the Sarbanes-Oxley Act which directly affected organizations in how they evaluate controls. This had a direct effect on Forensic Accounting, as these specialist are brought in to evaluate the numbers and find where things went wrong. The student will gain valuable experience in the Forensic Accounting which will put them ahead of their peers as they enter the Accounting profession. The research the student will be involved in will look at the role of Forensic Accountant in an investigation that involves corruption. This research position will allow the student to be an active researcher. He/she will be involved in all aspects of the research and will be able to have a better understanding of a Forensic Accountant's role in today's business environment.

This had a direct effect on Internal Auditing function within organizations and this affect needs to be studied. The research the student will be involved in will look at the role of Internal Auditors in an organization and the relationship between the Internal Auditors and both the External Audits and the management of the organization. Under the supervision of a Cancer Exercise Specialist, the student will be responsible for the exercise testing of research subjects (cancer survivors) who will vary widely in age, background, and fitness level. This will involve the administration of paper and pencil questionnaires, evaluation of heart rate and blood pressure at rest and during exercise, and the supervision of various physical tasks. The function will be to densify the SIUC Mapping Project by field topographic methods. The SIUC Map was created utilizing aerial photogrammetry and requires items which are too small to be seen on the photos to be field located and added to the map will assist the Engineering Division, Physical Plant with the location of existing utilities, new construction and other features which do not currently appear on the existing map.
The qualified two person team will be required to have knowledge of topographic mapping techniques utilizing both total stations and GPS along with CAD mapping. At a minimum the successful students will be required to have completed a minimum of two Civil and Environmental Engineering Department surveying courses or the equivalent. The students must be able to work as a team and be self motivated.

The position entails research in the area of biomedical instrumentation. Specifically, the position entails research in to the development of an ultrasonic 3D position estimation system for real time surgery. A preliminary system already exists, but needs to be modified for use in the operation room (OR), hence the student will be expected to work closely with practicing surgeons and engineering faculty (Dr. Ajay Mahajan). The position requires understanding the theory behind the existing 3D system, spending time in the operation room (OR) of the St. John's Hospital in Springfield, and observing the needs of the surgeon, and then suggesting changes to the system. The student will be responsible for the design and implementation of modification in the hardware (mechanical and electrical) and will help in the modification of the software. The student will interact with graduate students working on the theory part of the project and the machine shop that will work on the hardware modification.
The student should be a junior or senior level status from the College of Engineering or the College of Science. Preference will be given to students whose majors are Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science. A GPA of 3.0 or higher is required. Preference will also be give to students who have some prior experience in a related project or course work.

The coordinating producers act as the main organizer for this important labor-intense television series. They communicate the specifics of the show with all areas of Broadcasting Service; production, post-production, traffic, master control, scheduling, promotions, and management. They deal with the public, high school faculty, administration, parents and students. These positions require maturity and professionalism. During the fall semester this series of 31 programs are taped, edited, and archived. This producer supervises the assemblage of materials for the host, directors, judges, tape operators and stills/graphics personnel prior to tapings. The coordinating producer makes sure questions are organized, copied, and distributed so the host and judges have these materials for review prior to weekly taping dates. Prior to each taping session this producer organizes the prints and questions in two formats, one used by the host and the other by the directors and technical crew. He/she also sees to it that signs for competing schools and the teams' names are created, accurate, and ready to be added to the set. The coordinating producer makes sure shows are labeled correctly and archived. He/she maintains records on question usage, mailing lists of teams, and sends out updates to Scholastic HiQ's website on a weekly basis. Scholastic Hi-Q is a year-round endeavor.
A radio/television or cinema/photography academic major is preferred. Being a coordinating producer requires exceptional communication skills both verbal and written. The coordinating producer must be highly self-motivated and organized. This position requires and advanced knowledge of television production equipment and television studio operations. Computer skills are a must. Applicants must have experience with basic office productivity applications such as: Microsoft Word, and Excel. Associate Producer/Camera/Editor WSIU InFocus

The student will assist the fulltime staff producers in segment production for the WSIU InFocus television series. They will be responsible for operating a wide range of television production equipment including cameras, audio mixers, lighting kits, videotape decks, and nonlinear video editing systems under the supervision of the professional staff as well as on their own. During remote productions, they may be called upon to light locations, mic guests, mix audio, conduct interviews, and operate cameras. He/She will be assigned to keep the equipment room in good order and to prepare the gear prior to shoots. At times this work will be expected to work independently, shooting lectures and shooting additional video B roll for segments. In addition he/she will also be trained how to produce and shoot easier "filler" segments independently. They will assist with labeling tapes and will be expected to take the lead role capturing low resolution versions of these tapes. He/she will log the content in Final Cut pro, creating sub clips and then edit this material into a "rough cut". Once an edited segment is reviewed and tweaked by a staff producer, the Associate Producer/Camera/Editor is responsible for re-capturing it at full resolution for broadcast. They also are trained to compress of these competed segments for use on the WSIU's website and in DVD's. This person will also be cross-trained in duties the Associate Writer/Producer in case they are needed to fill in if that person is absent. The Associate Producer/Camera/Editor will also be expected to help recruit, train, supervise, and mentor the next crop of volunteers and student workers
The associate producer/camera/editor should be a radio/television or cinema/photography academic major. This position requires and advanced knowledge of television production equipment and electronic field production. Especially important is experience with broadcast quality cameras. They must be highly self-motivated and organized. Computer literacy and skills using basic office productivity applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft is expected. Advanced skills using Apple Final Cut Pro editing software is required and ability to use audio/video content manipulation such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Apple Soundtrack Pro, Apple DVD Studio Pro, are highly desirable.
